I love to study in various locations depending on the type of work I’m doing, my mood or just the overall vibe that I’m going for that day. However, coffee shops have a special place in my heart because I love iced oat lattes and because I sometimes crave the artsy vibe of one instead of the scholarly vibe of a library. These are some of the staple coffee shops that I recommend to others.

Souvenir Coffee Co.
Located in beautiful Elmwood, this is my go-to spot from freshman year because I lived in Clark Kerr. The iced oat latte is what kicked off my coffee addiction last year when I would go daily with my friend during finals week.

Sodoi Coffee Tasting House
With a beautiful, dim atmosphere and delicious coffee and pastries, this is another favorite of mine. However, it can often get pretty crowded and difficult to find a table, so that’s something to keep in mind, especially if you’re going with friends.

1951 Coffee Company
The coffee is not bad here, but the matcha — especially the strawberry one — is to die for. I usually end up spending my time chatting instead of being productive, but I don’t really mind. I love this place for more of a social studying aura and homework date.

The Musical Offering Cafe
One word: relaxing. I feel so calm and at peace here, and it makes me feel like I can accomplish anything I set my mind to. A must-try and a hidden gem in Berkeley for sure. Every friend I’ve recommended this place to so far has loved it.

Mind Coffee
Located near Etcheverry Hall, this shop has a beautiful white centerpiece hanging from the ceiling that has a wonderful calming effect. Also, the chocolate almond croissant is the best thing I have ever tasted. However, beware that you might have to sit on a beanbag on the floor to do your work because there are so few chairs, which isn’t everyone’s vibe.

Cafe Think
As the go-to cafe in Haas, I love this shop to grind out a quick assignment between classes. Definitely more of an academic or work vibe, but I like it if I’m in a productive mood (or if I want to be).

Berkeley coffee shops are honestly some of my favorite places on or around campus, and it’s my goal to try all of the nearby ones. Check back in for periodic updates on my new and improved favorites!
