To a sports editor of a college newspaper, March Madness is one of the most chaotic times of the year. It’s the one time a year, perhaps even more so than the college football playoffs, when all eyes are on collegiate athletes, some just fresh out of high school.
The teams we primarily report on at The Daily Californian may not be in the championship, but we’re still as dedicated as ever to covering the tournament. Bringing readers a comprehensive view of everything from top draft prospects to who would beat whom in a mascot fight, the Daily Cal is here for tournament viewers this year — whether you’re a die-hard basketball fan or you bet your dad $5 that Duke will make the Final Four.
The sports department’s staff writers got to take a break from (or, rather, add more work to) their regularly scheduled beat coverage for this very special edition of the paper.
So, from myself and my department, without further ado: Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. Welcome to the madness.
