MARCH 14, 2023

March is often accompanied by spring showers (or downpours!) These past few weeks, it feels like every day is interrupted by at least a brief drizzle, which can be less than joyful. Rainy day blues got you down? Don’t worry, here are some tips for staying happy (and dry) on a rainy day.

Stay inside
Just kidding! A little rain won’t hurt you, so if you’re using this as an excuse to avoid going to a class you should really go to just because you don’t feel like it, don’t do it! But, on a more serious note, when the gloomy weather is just too much for you, it’s sometimes ok to use the forecast as justification to take a break. Curl up, read a book or watch your favorite movie, and don’t force yourself to be productive if you’re just not feeling it.

Bring an umbrella
This one might seem obvious, but it’s very easy to forget! It’s best to check the forecast daily around this time of year, because you never know when the rain will start unexpectedly.

Raincoats are (usually) not your best bet
While it can be annoying when it’s windy to battle with your umbrella, I usually find that they still end up keeping me dryer. Plus, a raincoat won’t fit over your backpack, and you don’t want your laptop getting wet!

Look around
Dreary weather can sometimes be depressing — that’s just how it goes. However, taking a minute to look around at how beautiful rain looks when it falls, or how pretty it makes leaves glisten when they’re wet will likely ground you. Also, look forward to when the sun comes out, because it will feel extra special!

The next time the weather makes you question getting out of bed, or you start dreading every task you have to do that day, stop and take stock of things. It’s okay to feel down, but remember that the weather does not determine how your day (or week) is going to go! We at the Clog hope this rainy day guide cheers you up and brings a little sunshine into your rainy day.
