I never liked ice cream until I came to college. Ever since my roommates brought back a tub of Ben & Jerry’s Chunky Monkey and Cherry Crumble for me to try, I’ve been converted into a Ben & Jerry’s fan. My roommates and I have gone through at least 15 tubs of ice cream since last semester. Mint Chocolate Cookie, Cherry Garcia, Strawberry Cheesecake — we’ve tried and loved them all. Yet, I must say that froyo still reigns supreme for me. Its tartness and iciness are unsurpassable on a hot summer day, and its customizability is unrivaled; who can say no to a topping bar filled with samplers of every dessert imaginable?
There’s also been a resurgence of a scoopable dessert in the Gen-Z era — say hello to açaí (pronounced ah-sigh-EE) bowls. Açaí bowls are typically topped with various ingredients but almost always include tropical fruits and chia seeds. Here’s a tip for upping your açaí bowl game — add a scoop of cookie butter, and you’ll automatically be transported to bliss.
My ranking for these frozen desserts is froyo first, followed by açaí and finally ice cream. I know it’s controversial, but hear me out. Recently, I’ve been over-analyzing my choice of these three scoopable desserts and found a correlation between my ranking and my personality. So, here’s my take on what your favorite frozen dessert choice says about you, me and all of your friends.
You’re a delicate balance of sweetness and tartness, making you a polarizing individual — people either love or hate you. You stay true to yourself because when you try to change yourself to fit in, you realize you don’t quite reach your potential. You’re never really here or there, just like how strawberry or caramel froyo will never quite top their ice cream counterparts. So you stick to your true self and own it. Whether others like or hate it that’s not your problem. But when people like you, they love you.
You’re bougie and somewhat vain, even if you won’t admit it. You don’t mind occasionally splurging on unnecessary things because it gives you a temporary ounce of happiness. Sometimes, you live vicariously through the imagined lives of characters you’ve spun in your head. You’re also highly judgmental, but that’s human nature, right? People think you’re just a trend, praying on your downfall, but no, you’re here to stay. There will always be someone out there who craves your presence. You have commitment issues and are a full-on adrenaline junkie. To be honest, I like you a lot.
The sweetest of them all. You’re a people pleaser, a crowd favorite. With ice cream’s endless range of flavors, your versatility tops everyone else. You match people’s energy with finesse and will be the last to stir up conflict. No matter what flavor you are, there’s bound to be a fan base for you out there. You’re a nice person, a person who not only avoids conflict but resolves it. The world could do with a whole lot more of you. But let’s be honest, you like some people more than others. You hide your feelings way better than anyone else, making you lethal. But hey, you know what they say, fake it till you make it.
So, what’s your order?
