The National Weather Service, or NWS, has issued a flood watch for the Bay Area, in effect from Thursday to Sunday.
An alert from the city of Berkeley states that the worst rains are anticipated to occur Thursday and Friday. According to the NWS announcement, excessive rainfall continues to pose the risk of flooding. The announcement notes that most urban areas will see between one and a half and three inches of rainfall, while coastal ranges and inland hills may see three to six.
The NWS also issued a wind advisory for the Bay Area, effective through 4 p.m. Friday. It predicts winds between 15 and 25 miles per hour in parts of California, with gusts of up to 55 miles per hour. Berkeley may see periods of strong wind gusts, the city alert notes.
Both flooding and wind may cause power outages, according to the NWS and city alerts. The city announcement asks residents to exercise caution on roads and report any storm-related issues.
