As someone who doesn’t drink coffee except for an occasional latte every once in a while, here are some great alternatives for you to try that will still give you a boost of energy! I know it can be hard to cut out caffeine during long school or work days, but there are some healthier options out there instead of coffee. Of course, there are a lot more than the ones I’ve list here, but these are ones that I really love.
Matcha
Matcha has a fresh and earthy flavor, but it can be sweetened with agave or honey if that is more to your liking. With matcha powder, you can make a tea or latte with it depending on if you use hot water or steamed milk. It’s super easy to make, healthy and delicious!
Chai
Chai tea is a black tea blended with various spices such as cardamom, cinnamon, ginger and cloves. The black tea in the chai gives you the caffeine boost you’re looking for and the spices add lots of warming flavor. Chai does have less caffeine than coffee, but it still gives you some energy.
Yerba mate
Yerba mate is a naturally caffeinated herbal tea that contains a lot of vitamins, minerals, amino acids and antioxidants. In my experience, whenever I drink Yerba mate, I don’t feel jittery as I often do with coffee.
London Fog
If you don’t know what a London Fog is, it’s earl gray tea with foamy milk, and oftentimes, it has a little bit of vanilla syrup. It tastes more like coffee than the options above, so this could be a good option for those of you who love the taste of lattes.
Oftentimes when I drink too much caffeine, it can cause headaches, increased anxiety, a fast heartbeat and so on. If you have also felt some of these effects and are looking to cut out caffeine completely, here are some other drinks to wake up your body, refresh your mind and have a good start to your day:
Lemon water
Lemon water is a great way to get some vitamin C in. You can even make it into tasty fruity water by adding some sliced oranges, strawberries, cucumbers, mint, etc.
Golden Milk
This tastes just like a latte but has no caffeine! It is made of milk, ginger, cinnamon, turmeric, black pepper and honey. All you have to do is combine the spices and milk in a saucepan and heat until it is at the desired temperature!
I hope this article inspires you to try making one of these drinks at home or order it at a coffee shop. Maybe you will even end up liking one of them better than coffee!
