On Feb. 15, Berkeley Police Department arrested a 20-year-old UC Berkeley student in connection with a rape inside of a sorority house, according to BPD public information officer Byron White.

Officers were called at approximately 4:55 a.m. Upon arrival, officers found the suspect being held down by members of the sorority house.

The victim, identified as a woman in her 20s, was barricaded in a common room by the suspect where he then strangled and sexually assaulted her, according to BPD. She was eventually able to escape and ran for help.

The man was identified as 20-year-old Ivan Andres Gonzalez, who has since been charged with domestic violence battery, causing injury, rape by force, false imprisonment and preventing the victim from using her cellphone.
