It seems that the new year failed to usher in good news for Cal football fans, as breakout wide receiver J.Michael Sturdivant has reportedly entered the transfer portal, according to ESPN.

As a redshirt freshman, Sturdivant was a vital part of the blue and gold offense. This season saw Sturdivant start all 12 games on the gridiron, ending the year with 755 total receiving yards as well as leading the team with 65 receptions and seven catches in the end zone. Notably, the wide receiver amassed career-high numbers at the Washington game, scoring two touchdowns and tallying eight receptions, one of which was the longest of his career at 48 yards.

This is all to say that Cal is losing yet another valuable contributor to what little offensive firepower it had. Ever so perceptive, college football fans turn their wary eyes to Michigan and suspect the Wolverines to be a potential destination for Sturdivant, as they just saw the departure of a wide receiver as well. Regardless, it is up to Cal football to fill the offensive void that the departure of Sturdivant will surely leave.
