DECEMBER 19, 2022

As the saying goes, a picture is worth 1,000 words. In a newspaper, this sentiment is more apt than ever, as journalism is continually shifting towards visual and mixed-media platforms to tell the stories of our community. Our photographers work tirelessly to source and shoot photos to accompany articles from all our editorial departments; they are often found at the forefront of concerts, sports games, protests and other Berkeley events. The photos they produce help capture the moments told through the words of each article — and beautifully so. But this time, we’re letting the photos do all the talking. As we look back on the year, we hope this collection of the Daily Cal photo department’s best shots from 2022 intrigue you and inspire you to dig deeper into the stories of those portrayed.
