If there’s one thing (or 20) that I just couldn’t give up even when moving into my dorm room it would be my perfume bottles. Perfumes are something I find really important because the variety of fragrances help me curate my mood, intention and vibes for the day. My favorite part of the morning is picking through the delicious array of scents to find the perfect one. I like to carefully call myself both a perfume collector and connoisseur.
Without further ado, here are some of my perfume recommendations to match whatever occasion you find yourself in.
Carpe diem with style!
Chloé Eau de Parfum
The Chloé by Chloé Eau de Parfum rollerball was my first perfume purchase, and for a long time, I haven’t been able to find anything better. 13-year-old me had better taste than I remember! It’s both mysterious and melancholic, but also beautifully fresh and floral. If a good luck charm was a scent, this would be it.
Le Labo Rose 31
This musky rose is my study perfume, something that I put on when I’m due for some proper studying. It’s a fairly spicy sort of rose but the intensity is a delicious reminder to keep on going. If I had to compare this with a spot on campus it would be the classic, antique feel of Morrison Library.
Fragonard Beau de Provence
Fragonard’s Beau de Provence is a milky and sweet duo of fig and bergamot. Think of a creamy fig milkshake dashed with mountains of powdered sugar. A chic shade of purple but better. I’m personally addicted to the hand cream version of the scent, which, actually once exploded in my bag during a flight. I distinctly remember smelling like figs for a whole month afterward. But I’m still not sick of it.
Perfect by Marc Jacobs
This has been my all-time favorite for almost a year now, and trust me, that says a lot. It’s the only scent I bought blind at an airport (mostly because of how pretty the bottle was), but it couldn’t have worked out more perfectly! It’s simple, floral, light and delightful. You might think that it’s reminiscent of a lot of other perfumes in a department store, but I still haven’t been able to find anything similar to the sort. It’s my go-to scent for any time I need something to be perfect. So, all day every day.
Glossier You
This is a fairly unique scent that refuses to be pinned down to any specific category, and I guess it’s only fair as it’s supposed to smell like You! The scent reveals itself slightly differently to everyone but is nonetheless chic and comfortable. I was gifted the solid version and I find the small and pink circular container beyond adorable. Honestly, it feels like I have a mini pet in my purse at all times. I think if a good first impression was a scent, this would be it.
MFK’s Baccarat Rouge 540
This is a fun one. Last summer my brother and I went to a perfumery and got to smell, without exaggeration, 500 different scents. And while I ended up liking a whole host of them, my brother, out of all 500, only liked one: Baccarat Rouge 540. And honestly, I get it. The scent is difficult to describe because of all of its contrasting notes, but it manages to stay fun and delicious. I’m reminded of a magical circus full of decadent surprises.
