Content warning: sexual violence
On Sept. 23, UCPD received a report of an alleged sexual battery in Wheeler Hall that occurred last year.
According to UCPD spokesperson Capt. Sabrina Reich, the incident was “late-reported.” UCPD subsequently conducted a follow-up investigation and identified an alleged suspect. Reich added that UCPD submitted an out-of-custody complaint for sexual battery.
“This is a misdemeanor crime not committed in the presence of a police officer,” Reich said. “In this particular case where we were able to conduct a follow-up investigation and identify the alleged suspect, we submitted the case and the evidence and statements to the DA’s office and they review it.”
Sexual battery is defined as a type of sexual assault in which a person’s private body part is touched without their consent for the purpose of sexual gratification.
