Berkeley Mayor Jesse Arreguín announced that the city of Berkeley would begin providing COVID-19 booster vaccines equipped against the highly infectious omicron variant in an email statement Thursday.

The Pfizer-produced boosters will be provided for free at city-organized vaccine clinics, according to the statement. Those aged 12 and older who have completed their primary vaccine series and whose most recent vaccination was at least two months ago are eligible to receive the booster, the statement added.

Booster appointments through the city will be available each Tuesday in September and October at the Tarea Hall Pittman South Branch of the Berkeley Public Library. A clinic at Franklin Preschool on Eighth Street will also be held Sept. 24.

Appointments are also available through private healthcare providers, the statement noted, though supplies may be limited as distribution of the booster is in its early stages.
