If there’s anything the Berkeley area is known for, it’s the food. Filled with iconic restaurants like Gypsy’s, Cheese Board and La Note, Berkeley has a lot to offer. Just take a stroll down Telegraph Avenue and see for yourself. Eventually, you’ll find a favorite that you’ll find yourself going back to every so often.
After awhile, though, eating at the same places every day can be a little tiring. Thankfully, the Daily Clog has made a list of some of the restaurants and fast food places coming to Berkeley that are sure to spice up your semester. Try them out for yourself!
Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers
In Berkeley, bigger fast food chains are hard to come by. This is precisely why Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers’ opening is huge news for the Bay Area! It will be located right across from campus on Bancroft Way. This chain is an iconic fast food joint that offers some of the best chicken tenders and sides. Their chicken tenders are so good that they are the only dish on their menu. They usually have huge lines at most of their locations. For that reason alone, this place is a must-try!
Berserk Burger
This new burger place plans on opening its doors on University Avenue in October. Berserk Burger’s meals will feature their signature Angus-cut ground beef smash burgers. This is similar to the style you see at the In-n-Out locations. Besides their burgers, they will also have other menu items like milkshakes and fries. If you’re craving a hamburger and want to try something new in Berkeley, this is the perfect place to go to in the fall!
State Flour Pizza
This casual restaurant plans on opening up on College Avenue in October, too. Their menu features pizzas inspired by New York City with gourmet toppings. Who doesn’t love a good pizza place? It’ll be the perfect place to go on a date or any outing with friends. The owner, Derek Lau, also has experience working in multiple Michelin-star restaurants. With that said, this place has the potential to be a great hit that is worth checking out!
5 Tacos & Beers
As another restaurant opening up on College Avenue, 5 Tacos & Beers will serve ceviche, flautas and, of course, tacos and beer. This will be the second 5 Tacos & Beers location in the Bay Area with the original in Albany. Their tacos are the classic street tacos but with a homestyle twist — everything is made from scratch. They also plans on having an extensive selection of local craft beers which is perfect for anyone tired of the typical name-brand drinks. If you’re on the hunt for the best Mexican food in the Bay Area, be sure to check out 5 Tacos & Beers when they open in September!
Finding new places to eat in Berkeley can be hard, especially as a smaller college town that enjoys classic and local restaurants. With this list though, we here at the Daily Clog hope you find your new favorite place to eat out in Berkeley!
