The National Weather Service, or NWS, issued an excessive heat watch for the East Bay Hills on Friday, as first reported by Berkeleyside.
Although Berkeley is expected to peak at 85 degrees, temperatures may rise to more than 100 degrees in inland East Bay areas. The NWS said winds will remain relatively light, but added that the combination of high temperature and low humidity are associated with an increased fire risk.
However, according to Berkeleyside, a Red Flag Warning, which notes high fire danger, will likely not be issued.
The NWS recommended individuals stay hydrated, stay in air-conditioned areas and keep out of the sun. They also reminded that young children and pets should not remain unattended in vehicles, especially in warm or hot weather.
