As a busy college student, eating out for lunch is a way to save time between classes but can also break the bank, especially in Berkeley. Luckily, there are a few cheaper places to grab a quick bite to eat around town.
Seoul Hotdog
Located on Northside, this small restaurant has some of the best Korean corn dogs in Berkeley. With hot dogs ranging from $7 to $10 and a variety of different crusts available such as sweet potato, Flamin’ Hot Cheetos and squid ink, this is a great place to grab a cheap lunch.
Top Dog
A Berkeley staple since 1966, Top Dog is another one of the best cheap places to eat in Berkeley. With classic hot dogs, frankfurters and bratwursts ranging from $3 to $5, this is one of the cheapest places on our list.
Riceful Onigiri
Located on Southside, Riceful Onigiri might be one of the priciest fast-food places on our list, but it’s definitely worth the money! Riceful has several different onigiri options with a variety of different meat choices such as shrimp tempura, crab, spam, bacon and unagi. Each onigiri ranges from $7 to $10, so if you are looking for a light and cheap lunch, this is the perfect place to visit.
Taco and Company
Located in the Durant Food Court, this Mexican food restaurant in Berkeley is one of the cheapest places to buy tacos. Every Tuesday, Taco and Co. has a sale where most of its tacos (such as carne asada, al pastor, chicken and birria tacos) are only $2.50. On any other day, the tacos are usually $3.50, so you can have a cheap lunch every day of the week.
Boba Ninja
Although this recommendation may sound random, Boba Ninja actually has really affordable lunch options. My personal favorite is the popcorn chicken — a huge serving of fried goodness that you can share with a friend for lunch. There’s also fried tofu, chicken strips and cheese sticks all under $10.
Hopefully, this list of cheap lunch spots helps keep your tummy full and your bank account happy!
