UC Berkeley community members will be able to pick up free masks at Eshleman Hall starting Jan. 18.
Campus students, faculty and staff members can receive five free disposable KN95 or surgical masks upon showing their Cal 1 Card or a copy of their class schedule, according to the ASUC Student Union website. Masks will be offered Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m while supplies last.
Cotton masks are also available upon request. However, public health authorities have found many cloth masks to be “inadequate” and instead recommend surgical masks, KN95, KF94 or N95 masks in indoor settings, according to an email sent by Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Stephen Sutton, University Health Services medical director Anna Harte and Assistant Vice Chancellor Guy Nicolette on Thursday.
Campus will continue to require face coverings to be worn over the mouth and nose in all indoor settings, according to the email.
Additionally, students must receive a COVID-19 vaccine booster once they are eligible and before Jan. 18, the official first day of instruction for the spring 2022 semester, according to the email.
