After more than a year of Zoom University, in-person instruction is just around the corner. Whether you’re an incoming freshman or a junior who has only spent a semester on campus, it seems that many of us have at least one in-person class. Gone are the days of only dressing your upper body nicely or joining your class on Zoom in your pajamas. If you’re stuck on how you should dress when you’re not behind a webcam, here is some style advice based on popular majors at UC Berkeley.
Business administration
If you’re a business major, I definitely suggest going for a preppy look. Blair Waldorf and Chuck Bass from “Gossip Girl” are two perfect examples of this style that you can look to for inspiration. An outfit for business majors would include an oversized sweater vest over a white button-up with either a tennis skirt or dress pants. This preppy outfit works perfectly for business casual attire and will always have you looking prepared for coffee chats or office hours.
Environmental science
While this might seem a little on the nose, an earthy style such as cottagecore would be cute for those who major in the environmental sciences. This aesthetic is all about romanticizing a sustainable life, which pairs perfectly with the goals of this major. When it comes to fashion inspiration, look into nature and try to stay away from fast-fashion brands. The perfect outfit for those in environmental sciences would be overalls over a flowing floral blouse with some simple sandals. This outfit will suit you greatly as you learn more about the earth.
English
The dark academia aesthetic would be ideal if you’re an English major. This style is all about emulating the fashion of the early 20th century. Movies such as “Dead Poets Society” and “The Dreamers” that take place during that time will help spark fashion inspiration. For a more modern look, I would suggest a black turtle neck matched with plaid bottoms and loafers. This is a really classic outfit that will have you looking good whilst you tackle all your readings.
Computer science and/or data science
Since these majors deal with a lot of technology, I think techwear fashion will be perfect. This style is dubbed as the “apparel of the future,” and is all about using detail to curate an urban look. Popular brands that sell this kind of clothing and style would be North Face and Patagonia. When it comes to a back-to-school outfit, I would recommend opting for a monochromatic look that pairs utility sweatpants and vest with some black combat boots. You will be looking tech-ready in no time.
I hope that this has given you a little more inspiration when it comes to back-to-school fashion. We at the Clog are really excited to see what everybody is rocking on their first day back!
