The Berkeley Fire Department, or BFD, found an unidentified man dead in a planter box Sunday afternoon on the 2100 block of Shattuck Avenue.

The Berkeley Police Department, or BPD, received a report from a downtown ambassador of an unresponsive “man in his 60s” laying in a planter box, according to BPD spokesperson Byron White. White added that BFD determined that the man was deceased after responding to the report.

White said the Alameda County Coroner’s Office recovered the body but has yet to determine the cause of death, and the person’s identity has not been released.
