Gina Joseph, a media and marketing industry leader, has been elected to The Daily Californian’s Board of Directors.
Joseph, ‘08, worked at the Daily Cal as an advertising account executive and was the business manager during her senior year. A Harvard Business School graduate, Joseph is Vice President of strategic partnerships at VentureBeat and was previously at Hearst and Digital First Media/Media News Group, spearheading product innovation, revenue growth strategy, and leading digital transformation.
“UC Berkeley and the Daily Cal hold a special place in my heart,” Joseph said. “The history is so rich, the Cal community is so vibrant, and my time at the Daily Cal has taught me so much about the industry and how to navigate a leadership role in a startup-like environment. I look forward to working with the board and staff to continue the incredible legacy the Daily Cal holds.”
Joseph co-founded VentureBeat Lab, a strategic thought leadership consultancy and branded content studio that innovates for brand partners.
“We on the Daily Cal board of directors are thrilled to have Gina join us,” said Larry Wilson, ’77, chair of the Daily Cal board and public editor for the Southern California News Group. “With her amazing digital skillset, she will help the business team members immensely as they strive to recover from the advertising and marketing challenges presented by the pandemic.”
As with all directors, Joseph also becomes a member of the Daily Californian Education Foundation, a 501(c)(3) corporation that takes donations to help fund the Daily Cal.
“We welcome Gina as an advocate for diversity, inclusion and supporting women in leadership roles,” said Linda Schacht, ’66 and MJ ‘74, a retired broadcast journalist and J School faculty member, who chairs the Ed Foundation board.
Joseph is also a board member leading events and strategy for Alumnae-i Network for Harvard Women SF Bay Area. She is the first Afghan American to serve on a board for a publishing company. She and her husband, Dr. Shams Joseph, met at Cal and live in the East Bay.
