At this time last year, the first cases of COVID-19 in Berkeley were discovered, and none of our lives have been the same since. 

We have spent almost a full year in various stages of quarantine; wearing masks, working and taking classes from home and staying socially distanced have become the new normal. 

In our Year of COVID impact issue, The Daily Californian takes a look back at the rapid advances in research related to COVID-19, the pandemic’s disproportionate impact on people of color, trends that have emerged from quarantine and athletes playing in front of empty stands. 

The Daily Cal has covered all stages of the pandemic and will continue to do so in an effort to keep our community informed. Even as we look forward to what a future without the pandemic may hold, the far-reaching impacts of COVID-19 will surely last for years to come.
