Berkeley police arrest suspect for allegedly brandishing ax

Berkeley Police Department officers found a suspect on the 2400 block of College Avenue on Friday night, with a discarded ax having been found nearby. The 29-year-old suspect was arrested on suspicion of brandishing a weapon in addition to two outstanding arrest warrants.

Officers responded to a report Friday evening that a man brandished an ax at vehicles on Southside, according to a Nixle alert released by the Berkeley Police Department on Wednesday.

At 9:15 p.m. Friday, officers responded to a report of a suspect “hitting vehicles with an axe” on the 2500 block of Parker Street, according to the alert. Officers then found the suspect on the 2400 block of College Avenue, where the ax was found discarded nearby.

The alert added that the suspect was identified as a 29-year-old man with no residential address. The suspect was arrested on suspicion of brandishing a weapon and two outstanding arrest warrants.
