Following a surge of COVID-19 cases at UC Berkeley, campus experienced a 15.6% decline in cases during the week of Jan. 31 compared to the previous week of Jan. 24.

According to the campus’ testing dashboard, University Health Services, or UHS, reported 164 cases from Jan. 31 to Feb. 5, as of press time. Undergraduate students accounted for 156 of those cases, while there were three cases among graduate students and five among faculty and staff.

While cases have decreased, the wait time for UHS surveillance test results has increased to 2.8 days as of Jan. 31. UHS also saw an increase in the number of total COVID-19 tests for the week of Jan. 31, up 7.7% from the previous week.

In the meantime, campus’ Recovery Management Team has extended the suspension of all nonessential in-person activities from Feb. 28 to March 29, according to a campus update Friday. The update noted, however, that the suspension does not include approved instruction, essential research and essential work.
