Content warning: sexual assault
On Monday, the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office charged a suspect involved in a kidnapping and domestic violence incident.
A woman reported Jan. 18 that she was a victim of domestic violence by Losvel Bethea, a 32-year-old San Francisco man, according to Berkeley Police Department spokesperson Officer Byron White. Bethea was identified as the suspect, and during the evening of the reported incident, he kidnapped the woman, according to a BPD Nixle alert.
While Bethea drove the woman around the city of Berkeley, he battered and sexually assaulted her, the alert added. Bethea then stole her car after the woman was able to escape from the vehicle.
Detectives investigated the incident and obtained a warrant for Bethea’s arrest, according to the alert. Detectives met with various individuals who were familiar with Bethea during their search and encouraged those individuals to persuade him to turn himself in.
Bethea “safely” turned himself in to the San Francisco Sheriff’s Office on Jan. 20, according to the alert. Multiple charges were made against Bethea by the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office, including assault, battery, robbery and kidnapping, among other charges.
