On Thursday, the San Jose Earthquakes selected Cal men’s soccer forward Tommy Williamson with the No. 12 overall pick in the 2021 MLS SuperDraft.

Over the course of three seasons at UC Berkeley, the Villa Park native scored nine goals and notched one assist. All of Williamson’s goals with the Bears came in his breakout junior year campaign in 2019. That season, the forward led the blue and gold in goals scored and made the All-Pac-12 second team.

His converted penalty kick against No. 4 Stanford in November 2019 — which could very well end up being his last goal as a Bear — wound up being the game-winner. The upset victory over the highly ranked Cardinal likely helped propel Cal into the 2019 NCAA championship tournament.

Williamson has only been selected by the Earthquakes and has yet to sign a professional contract with the club as of press time. He may opt to delay beginning his professional career in order to play for Cal in the upcoming spring season.
