The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office charged Fidel Valdez Alvarez, an 18-year-old San Pablo male, with carjacking with a firearm and multiple counts of robbery with a firearm Thursday, according to a UCPD email.

On Dec. 6 at 9:37 p.m., the robbery occurred on campus property in the Underhill parking garage. Three UC Berkeley students were approached by Alvarez and three other suspects, two of whom held handguns, according to the email. The suspects demanded the students’ personal property, including their car.

The UCPD investigation identified multiple suspects and recovered the victim’s vehicle, as well as another stolen vehicle used in the robbery, the email added. UC police also recovered some of the stolen personal property.

UCPD officers searched a suspect’s residence Wednesday after serving a search warrant, according to the email. They found additional evidence and arrested Alvarez.

Other suspects are juveniles. UCPD noted in the email that it will continue to work with the Alameda County Juvenile Justice Center to identify appropriate charges.
