Berkeley police investigate break-in, attempted assault on Warring Street

Berkeley Police Department is investigating a break-in and attempted assault that occurred on the 2400 block of Warring Street, according to a BPD Nixle alert.

At around 12:45 a.m. Sunday, BPD received reports of a woman screaming in the area, according to the alert. Officers responded and located the victim, who reported that she was attacked in her apartment by an unknown suspect. She described the suspect as a Black male, age unknown and 5 feet 9 inches to 6 feet tall, with broad shoulders and a muscular build.

According to the alert, the victim resisted the suspect after being threatened with a handgun, after which the suspect hit the victim several times with an object before fleeing the scene. The victim was treated at a local hospital after receiving significant but non-life-threatening injuries.
