PG&E urged its customers to conserve energy during the heat wave expected to occur over the three-day Labor Day weekend in a Thursday press release.

Based on the forecast high temperatures and expected increased power demand, the California Independent System Operator, or CAISO, issued a Flex Alert to conserve energy throughout the weekend, according to the press release. Daytime highs could top out up to 15 to 20 degrees above normal.

“Customers are asked to reduce their energy use from 3 p.m. until 9 p.m. each day, Saturday through Monday, when air conditioners drive consumption,” read the press release. “By doing so, customers can help make sure the state has enough supply to meet demand for electricity.”

PG&E also provided customers with a list of tips for conserving power, including adjusting the thermostat to 78 degrees or higher, using a fan and putting off tasks such as vacuuming, laundry and dishwashing until after 9 p.m., among others.

According to the press release, CAISO has given no indication of needing rotating outages such as those experienced by California residents last month.
