The Bears bolstered their 2021 class once again with the addition of wide receiver Lu-Magia Hearns. Just one day after receiving a formal offer from Cal, Hearns committed to the blue and gold.

The 5’10”, 160-pound prospect out of De La Salle High School in Concord, California, is just the latest addition to a Bears’ class that is ranked No. 30 in the nation. The last time a Cal football recruiting class was ranked in the top 30 was 2012.

Rated as a three-star prospect by both Rivals and 247Sports, Hearns received multiple FCS offers, but had just one FBS offer from Florida Atlantic before the Bears came calling. He is the third wide receiver to be recruited into the class of 2021 and will join a talented position group populated by top 300 prospects Mavin Anderson and J. Michael Sturdivant.

Hearns, however, brings more than just offense to the table — he played as defensive back as well as receiver during his time at De La Salle High School. That diverse skill set and all-around ability will be valued, as the blue and gold have built a talented secondary consisting of multiple players who were often not recruited explicitly as defensive backs. Safeties Jaylinn Hawkins and Ashtyn Davis were recruited as a wide receiver and walk-on, respectively, and both were drafted in the first four rounds of the 2020 NFL draft.
