To limit overcrowding in what are usually popular spots during the celebrations, UC Berkeley campus parking lots and Grizzly Peak Boulevard will be closed July 4, as high fire danger is expected.

The closures will begin at noon Friday and end Sunday at 5 a.m. The lots affected include the Lawrence Hall of Science parking lots, the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute Terrace lots and the botanical gardens parking lot.

Centennial Drive, between Stadium Rim Way and Grizzly Peak Boulevard, will also be closed starting July 4 at 5 p.m. and Grizzly Peak Boulevard will be closed between Centennial Drive and Claremont Avenue.

“Historically, the UC Berkeley parking lots and emergency turnouts along Grizzly Peak Blvd have been popular spots to view the San Francisco Bay Area skyline on Independence Day,” a public notice from UCPD spokesperson Sgt. Nicolas Hernandez reads. “This has caused overcrowding, illegal parking in the roadway and delayed emergency services’ response to calls for service.”
