Bay Area counties have eased some shelter in place restrictions, but have elected to extend the order to May 31. In light of this change, Berkeley Rec Sports Interim Director Brigette Lossing announced that facilities would remain closed until the same date.

“The Rec Sports closure of facilities, programs and services will be extended through Sunday, May 31,” Lossing said in a press release. “We will be reviewing the new order to determine whether there will be any additional changes to our current operations and provide updates as needed.”

This announcement is the first since April 6, when closures were initially extended through May 3.

Rec Sports has expanded online programming, including free fitness consultations as well as access to classes and personal trainers. The press release also stated that Rec Sports would provide work opportunities to staff at all levels. The April 6 press release stated that Rec Sports would continue to pay staff at all levels.

RSF locker routines have also been paused at this time, though requests can be submitted to retrieve RSF locker items.
