Like our beloved Recreational Sports Facility, many gyms are closed during this shelter-in-place period. The closures have caused many of us to scramble for ways to stay active. Some of us are lucky enough to have built-in gyms at home where we’re still able to lift weights and continue our daily workout routines. But many of us don’t have this luxury and are forced to change up our workout routines to accommodate the lack of equipment we have at home.
The popularity of home-workout videos on YouTube has been growing exponentially since we became quarantined. It’s the best way to get a good workout without the need for any equipment, and it’s free! There are dozens of videos you can choose from, ranging from HIIT workouts to those targeting just your legs or arms. Here are some of the Clog’s favorite home-workout videos. Which home-workout will you follow today?
Whitney Simmons’ “Full Body Follow Along Workout – Fat Blasting & No Noise Circuit”
Whitney Simmons is by far one of our favorite fitness YouTubers. She’s bubbly and relatable, and her workouts are always killer! Her video leads you through a 40-minute workout that incorporates a little bit of high interval intensity training, or HIIT, to get your heart rate going and exercises that target every muscle in your body. It’s a “no noise circuit,” so you don’t have to worry about disrupting your household or neighbors with exercises like squat jumps or burpees. After this workout, you’ll be aching and drenched in sweat! (This workout requires dumbbells.)
Chloe Ting’s “Get Abs in 2 Weeks | Abs Workout Challenge”
If you haven’t heard of Chloe Ting, you should definitely give her videos a try. She offers many follow-along workout videos on her YouTube channel that you can do right at home with no equipment. They’re all challenging and will surely help you build strength. She offers many free workout programs that will lead you through workouts to do each day. Of all her videos, we think her “Get Abs in 2 Weeks | Abs Workout Challenge” workout is one of our favorites because it’s quick and it gets the job done. In just 10 minutes, your abs will be feeling the burn. We recommend trying two rounds of this workout if you want to feel your abs screaming!
SELF’s “30-minute HIIT Cardio Workout with Warm Up – No Equipment at Home”
HIIT is a combination of sets of short bursts of intense anaerobic exercises that will get your heart racing. Because you’re only doing these exercises in short intervals, you can push yourself to the max to get the most out of it. Any HIIT workout can leave you sweating, panting and aching. It’s one of our favorite ways to up our cardio for the day. SELF provides many health, fitness, beauty, style-advice and workout videos for women. Its “30-minute HIIT Cardio Workout with Warm Up – No Equipment at Home” video incorporates high-intensity exercises like burpees, star jumps and ski-skaters that’ll leave you drenched in sweat just after the first circuit. What’s so great about at-home HIIT workouts is that you’re able to pause the video and take longer breaks if needed. The video also offers low-impact alternatives to every exercise!
