The Berkeley community was advised to avoid the 2200 block of Byron Street due to a structure fire Saturday, according to a Berkeley Police Department Nixle alert.

On Saturday, the Berkeley Fire Department, or BFD, received a call reporting the fire at 3:22 p.m. The BFD’s first unit arrived at Byron Street at 3:25 p.m., according to BFD spokesperson Officer Keith May. The BFD confirmed that a vehicle was on fire and that the fire had spread to a house with people evacuating from the structure.

May said in an email that according to bystander information, the fire started at the front passenger area of the vehicle. An investigator, however, was unable to determine the cause of the fire.

There were no injuries to the residents of the house or to the firefighters, May added. Damage from the fire is estimated to be about $65,000.
