At about 12:40 p.m. Feb. 28, officers responded to an in-progress residential burglary on the 300 block of Vassar Avenue, according to a Berkeley Police Department Nixle Alert.

The resident discovered that the glass of their front door was broken when they returned home, according to the alert. When the resident stepped inside their house, they heard footsteps from the upper level.

The resident then ran outside of the house and saw the suspect get into a waiting white sedan, the alert added. Witnesses described the suspect as a white or Hispanic man, about 30 to 40 years old, about 5 feet 8 inches in height with a heavy build and wearing a white t-shirt and baggy jeans.
