My all-time favorite music to listen to while studying has to be lo-fi music! It wasn’t until last semester that I was introduced to this genre of music, and it has honestly changed my life. Lo-fi, or “low fidelity,” music is an aesthetic of music that captures the imperfections during recording and production and often results in the sound being “low quality” compared to contemporary standards.

There are minimal lyrics and the music consists mostly of beats, which is perfect for studying, as you will neither get distracted by the words of songs nor be tempted to sing along. To me, lo-fi music is extremely calming, and I’ve found myself to be more focused while listening. I’m much more productive with these beats.

The listening experience is the equivalent of how relaxed I feel when I am sitting on the beach, watching the waves crash into each other. There are many genres of lo-fi music, but my favorite has to be lo-fi hip-hop. It’s a genre of lo-fi music that integrates traditional hip-hop and jazz elements together to create an atmospheric, instrumental soundscape.

We at the Clog have compiled some of our favorite lo-fi music for you to indulge your eardrums with the next time you want to stay focused! We hope you all enjoy!

Fear not, readers. I’m not crazy like the rest of the United States. I acknowledge that it’s way too early to be listening to holiday music, but it isn’t too early to be listening to one particular holiday’s music — Thanksgiving.
