An armed carjacking occurred in Richmond on Thursday morning and ended behind the UC Berkeley Valley Life Sciences Building, according to Richmond Police Department Lt. Matt Stonebraker.

Stonebraker said Richmond police were alerted to a carjacking at the intersection of Harvard Street and Cutting Boulevard in Richmond. When officers arrived, the vehicle was still present but began driving away as the police approached. The police began to pursue the car onto Interstate 580 toward Interstate 80 and finally exited onto University Avenue.

The pursuit ended when the car parked behind the Valley Life Sciences Building. According to Stonebraker, the suspect fled on foot for a short distance and the police apprehended the suspect. The suspect will be medically cleared and held in custody.
