Berkeley Police Department, or BPD, officers arrested a man on suspicion of traffic violation, resisting a peace officer and violation of probation after a foot chase Tuesday afternoon, according to BPD spokesperson Officer Byron White.

About 12:06 p.m., two officers were standing on the southwest corner of Durant Avenue and Bowditch Street when they allegedly saw a man cross Durant Avenue heading north against a solid red hand signal, according to White. When the officers tried to detain the man for the violation, he allegedly ran away and the officers chased him to the Telegraph Channing Parking Garage.

The officers detained and arrested the man, 25-year-old Jonah Scott Andrews, at the garage, where they found him hiding in the women’s restroom, White said in an email.

Andrews is currently being held at Santa Rita Jail, where he is awaiting arraignment Thursday, according to jail records.
