The victim of Friday afternoon’s shooting in People’s Park died from a gunshot wound after being transported to the hospital, according to a UCPD Nixle alert released at 8:25 p.m. Friday.

According to the alert, the shooting was premeditated.

The homicide occurred about 2:40 p.m. in the southwest corner of People’s Park. The suspect drove up in a car, walked over to the victim and proceeded to shoot him in the head.

The suspect then got back into his car and was last seen driving east on Dwight Way, according to witness descriptions. He is currently sought by UCPD.

Neither the victim nor the perpetrator appear to be affiliated with the campus.

“Initial investigation indicates that the shooting was not a random act,” the alert said. “UCPD is continuing to investigate and encourages anyone with additional information to contact us as soon as possible.”
