Coming off a sensational performance against No. 1 UCLA, Cal junior Jared Horn has been named Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week.

Through a career-high 8.1 innings against the Bruins last Friday night, Horn allowed just one unearned run and struck out a career-high of 10 batters, leading Cal to a 4-1 upset win. Being the team player that he is, Horn attributed a great portion of his success to his teammates around him.

“We have a stellar defense and an outstanding offense. So I know I can attack hitters, pound the zone, let my defense work,” Horn said. “I knew if I gave up that one in the third, that wasn’t going to beat us because our offense is so good. I knew they were going to battle back and get us a few more runs.”

In 39.1 innings this season, Horn has accumulated a 3-1 record, and his 1.60 ERA ranks second in the Pac-12.

While the right hander’s dominance throughout April has certainly put him in the running for Pac-12 Pitcher of the Month, he can enjoy the conference’s weekly honor for the time being.
