UCPD is investigating reports of gunshots on Southside that occurred early Friday morning, according to a Nixle alert sent later that same morning.
On Friday about 1:37 a.m., UCPD and Berkeley Police Department officers responded to reports of six gunshots near the 2500 block of Durant Avenue. The male suspect was described by witnesses wearing a grey hoodie, who fled in a black Mazda sedan driven by a female driver heading southbound on Bowditch Street. No victims came forward after this incident, and it is unknown if there was a target of the gunfire, according to the alert.
About half an hour later at 2:10 a.m., UCPD received reports of three more gunshots on the 2300 block of Piedmont Avenue, close to the south-east corner of the UC Berkeley campus. UCPD and BPD responded to the area but found no victims or suspects. Then, at 2:17 a.m., UCPD received another report of one gunshot heard on the 2500 block of Warring Street, near the Clark Kerr Campus. When officers responded to the area, they again found no victims or suspects.
