A pedestrian crossing Martin Luther King Jr. Way was struck by a vehicle Tuesday evening, according to Berkeley Police Department spokesperson Officer Byron White.
White said in an email that officers responded to the 3100 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Way about 10:20 p.m. Tuesday after receiving reports of a collision involving a vehicle and pedestrian. The pedestrian was struck by a vehicle traveling northbound on Martin Luther King Jr. Way.
The pedestrian, 55, was transported to a local hospital and is in critical condition, according to White. White added that the driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.
BPD released a Nixle alert about midnight Wednesday, advising community members to avoid the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Way and Adeline Street because officers had closed the intersection to continue their investigation of the major injury accident. White said the roads opened once again about 6:21 a.m. Wednesday.
