An apparent altercation north of Shattuck Avenue left two men injured Wednesday evening — one with a stab wound and the other with a head injury — according to Berkeley Police Department spokesperson Officer Byron White.

White said in an email that BPD responded to a report of a stabbing on the 1700 block of Shattuck Avenue in Gourmet Ghetto at 8:10 p.m Wednesday. When officers arrived at the scene, they found one man with a stab wound to his torso and a second man with a head injury after being hit with a chain.

White said in an email that it appears the two men had an “altercation just prior to the incident,” adding that the case is currently under investigation. Both men were transported to a local hospital.
