Berkeley Police Department located a stolen Lexus driving in the area south of campus on Thursday about 7 p.m., according to a Nixle alert released Monday afternoon.
After the Lexus made it to the 2000 block of Bancroft Way, officers attempted to stop the vehicle, according to the alert. Rather than stopping, the suspect drove away in the opposing lanes of Bancroft Way and Shattuck Avenue, striking two vehicles and a police car door that an officer was exiting.
The officer was able to avoid injury by quickly re-entering the police car before the door was forcibly shut by the collision, according to the alert. The suspect, last seen driving onto I-80 East, continued to flee to South Berkeley, and officers discontinued the pursuit because of the suspect’s reckless driving, according to the alert.
