The Berkeley Police Department arrested a suspect in connection with possession of child pornography, among other charges, Saturday afternoon, according to a Nixle alert released Thursday.

The alert stated that about 4 p.m. Saturday, an officer recognized a suspect walking on Bonita Avenue near Berkeley Way as a sex registrant with outstanding felony warrants for failing to register. The officer arrested the suspect, Carl Bartlett Jones II, whom the alert described as a 60-year-old homeless male.

During the arrest, the officer discovered that Jones had an iPad that contained images of nude children, the alert alleged. Jones was consequently arrested on suspicion of possession of child pornography, as well as his two arrest warrants.
