Berkeley police clear 'suspicious vehicle' near University Avenue, Bonar Street

Berkeley Police Department notified the community late Thursday morning that it cleared a “suspicious vehicle” near University Avenue and Bonar Street, allowing the community to safely return to the area, according to a Nixle alert.

About 10:34 a.m., BPD notified the public through an initial Nixle alert that it had closed University Avenue between Acton and Curtis streets to investigate a suspicious vehicle. Berkeley residents were advised to avoid the area around University Avenue between Acton, Addison and Curtis streets, the alert said.

About 4o minutes later, BPD released a second alert saying that the area was safe to return to.
