Not everyone is full of school spirit, and that’s OK. Maybe when homecoming weekend rolls around, the last thing you want to do is get sucked into a “Roll on, you Bears!” chant. So for those of us who aren’t on the rah-rah-Rally Committee, here are some things to do this weekend to avoid all the festivities.

Watch Netflix in bed

There’s nothing better than putting on a pair of comfy pajamas and burrowing under your covers with your trusty Netflix account. Celebrate the homecoming weekend by giving yourself a much-needed break from schoolwork. Now’s the perfect time to marathon all the shows you’ve been meaning to catch up on, such as “Grey’s Anatomy” and “The Good Place,” or the classics, such as “Friends.” There’s no chance you can run into overly spirited freshmen and alumni if you stay within the safe confines of your bed!

Hide in Moffitt Library

Taking a break is good, but no UC Berkeley student can escape the onslaught of midterms. After a long and restful Netflix binge, stuff your bag with all the readings you’ve procrastinated this semester and lock yourself up in Moffitt Library (the fifth floor, of course). Homecoming weekend is the perfect time to find a seat in Moffitt — with everyone getting ready for the game, you’ll have your pick of the most secluded corner on the floor. And the thick concrete walls of the library will shield you from all that school cheer you’re trying to dodge.

Climb the Big C

Exercise is important to a healthy lifestyle, so why not hike up to the Big C to get a beautiful view in the process? Take some time away from studying to rest your tired brain and stay energized. And you can still look down from the hill and see all those sports fans — really, it’s the closest you might ever want to get to that many spirited football players.

Escape to San Francisco for the day

Get as far away from campus as possible by fleeing to San Francisco for the day! Hang out by the pier and eat a hot pretzel while watching the sea lions, or explore City Lights Bookstore for hours. There are always tons of exciting things to do in the city, and absolutely none of them involve having school spirit, so if you’re a grumpy Bear, explore San Francisco for the weekend.

Stop being grumpy and go to the game!

Sure, you might not be the most spirited person on campus, but you’re still a Cal Bear at heart. And really, there’s no way to entirely avoid school spirit. Even if you hate football and homecoming, show your support for your fellow students by donning some form of blue and gold. Whether you go to parties, the game, or just high-five Oski on your way home, don’t be too stressed or too cool to show your love for the the No. 1 public university in the world!
