Although the thought of being the “new kid” in school can be intimidating, it’s not the least bit nerve-wracking to transfer to UC Berkeley, one of the best universities in the nation, a community with unparalleled opportunities and an inclusive, diverse atmosphere. Though the first few months adjusting to a new city and a challenging curriculum can certainly be difficult, coming to Berkeley is among the best choices you could make — a truly enriching experience that you can’t find elsewhere. If you’re not convinced, consider all the amazing aspects of Berkeley that make it so special.

Oski

Who could hate on such a lovable cardigan-wearing bear? If your classes have got you feeling blue, Oski’s eternal grin will surely cheer you up and have you back in that Golden Bear spirit. It’s hard not to smile when you see him take center stage at any pep rally or sporting event.

Campus buildings

Throughout the expanse of campus are several beautifully designed buildings to make your everyday trips to school exceptionally entertaining. From the modern construct of Jacobs Institute for Design Innovation to the neoclassical architecture of Doe Memorial Library, each part of campus has a unique mystery in its design. What would the campus be without the famous Sather Gate and mighty Campanile?

Accolades

If it’s academic rigor and prestige you’re seeking, look no further! The sheer size of UC Berkeley’s campus libraries is enough to demonstrate its academic excellence. With so many Nobel Laureates in an array of fields including physics, chemistry and economics, there are even parking spaces dedicated to honorees. If the names Berkelium and Californium sound familiar, they’re just two of the elements that UC Berkeley graduates have added to the periodic table.

Extracurriculars

There are endless clubs and organizations to join. For whatever field or hobby you’re interested in, there’s bound to be a club on campus to help you explore your interest more and make UC Berkeley’s large student body seem so much smaller in an instant.

City life

UC Berkeley’s location is great for so many reasons. There are tons of nearby restaurants, cafés and boba shops. The Downtown region offers even more possibilities for food and adventures. If you’re in need of some retail therapy, Berkeley also has several clothing and shoe stores close by, perfect for keeping your campus style in check. San Francisco is just a BART ride away for those missing the metropolitan lifestyle. And if that’s not your thing, Grizzly Peak Trail, the fire trails and the Claremont Canyon Regional Preserve are popular hikes close to campus with astonishing views.

While the unfamiliar can often be scary, it can also be extremely fulfilling. Being a student at UC Berkeley is a world-class experience, not just for its rankings or awards, but for all of the memories that will transpire during your two years here.
