5 suspects in custody on suspicion of kidnapping 21-year-old man

A civilian called Berkeley Police Department on Saturday night at about 10 p.m. to report that his friend, a 21-year-old man, had been kidnapped at about 6 p.m., as first reported by Berkeleyside.

The civilian who reported the kidnapping had dropped off his friend at Knights Inn on University Avenue earlier that night and said his friend was being held on a $30,000 ransom. He also reported that the perpetrators wanted the caller to bring the ransom to the city of Tracy, according to BPD spokesperson Officer Byron White.

White also said in an email that five suspects were arrested in the city of Patterson, which is near Tracy. The victim was also found and recovered.

According to White, the suspects are:

  • Fountain Inn, South Carolina, resident Antravious Marquis Evans, 19
  • Fountain Inn, South Carolina, resident Vacenta Rakey Rice, 27
  • Greenville, South Carolina, resident Jamikaco Tyrone Thompson, 27
  • Greenville, South Carolina, resident Racal Jamikaco Thompson, 24
  • Greenville, South Carolina, resident Rodquavious Mikeon Whitehurst, 20

Charges include Kidnapping for ransom, Torture, Robbery, Possession of an assault weapon, and other related enhancements,” White said in an email.
