Dear summer 2018,

It seems like just a few weeks ago we were begging you to be here. In fact, it was actually only two weeks ago that the students of UC Berkeley were longing for you while cramming for finals. We were so unhappy without you. We spent what were truly our darkest hours waiting for you. When you finally welcomed us with open arms, we couldn’t have felt more warm and fuzzy inside. You gave us freedom. You gave UC Berkeley students feelings that we all haven’t felt in the past year: happiness, relief and hope.

Summer 2018, it’s tragic that our time together is over. As summer school starts today, we desperately wish we had more time together. It just feels too soon, y’know? But let’s not wallow; instead, let’s take this time to appreciate all the fun we had together. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you so much for this past week. It breaks our hearts that it has to end so soon.

These past seven days were the best seven days we’ve had in awhile. We got to sleep for a full nine hours (sometimes even more), eat real home-cooked meals and see long-distance friends. And who can we thank for all these blessings? You! Summer 2018, you did this for us. We could never repay you for gracing us with your presence in times when we needed it most. You let us forget, for just a few moments, that we go to UC Berkeley. You let us feel like our youth isn’t deteriorating at 2x speed, like the way we view course captures. It’s been nice getting time to breathe and have some laughs that aren’t about our crippling mental health. 

But it’s time to let you go. Know that this isn’t a goodbye but more of a “see you later.” We’ll catch up again soon! Just please don’t forget about us, as we could never forget about you. Thank you again for all that you are and all that you do. Summer 2018, we truly love you.
