One of the best mother-daughter duos is none other than Lorelai and Rory Gilmore. I mean, Rory’s full name is literally Lorelai Gilmore. Along with sharing the same exact name, Lorelai and Rory also share their wit, love of coffee and, of course, their beautiful blue eyes!
The whole series of “Gilmore Girls” followed the lives of a young single mother and her responsible daughter. Rory and Lorelai are the best of friends — maybe even better friends than Oski and us. Here are our favorite Rory and Lorelai moments, in no specific order, that will make you laugh, cry and overall miss when television was more than just reality shows.
When Rory would admit that she needed her mom
Rory was definitely portrayed as the more mature one of the two. When it seemed like Lorelai needed Rory, we were always reminded that, in the end, they needed each other.
When Rory graduated from Chilton Preparatory School and dedicated her speech to Lorelai
Lorelai never got to finish school, which is why she pushed for Rory’s education. Lorelai always made things work, especially with Chilton’s ridiculous tuition prices — UC Berkeley students can relate!
When Lorelai threw Rory one of the best birthday parties ever
Lorelai made sure that Rory felt special on her birthday. As the unofficial poster girl of Stars Hollow, Rory got a birthday to remember when the whole community got involved to pull off the extravagant celebration.
When Rory and Lorelai got their hearts broken
I’ll admit that when Rory first got her heart broken, I cried … a lot. When Lorelai got her heart broken, my heart actually broke, too. Although we rooted for every single boy in their lives, we rooted even harder for Lorelai and Rory. But in the end, we knew they’d be fine because they had each other.
When Rory and Lorelai left before Lorelai’s big day
Lorelai got cold feet before her big wedding day and decided to run off. With a true understanding of her mother, Rory got up and left with her without hesitation. In the end, it’ll always be Lorelai and Rory.
Literally all of their witty banter
This mother and daughter have a unique, nontraditional relationship. They’re a mere 16 years apart, which makes their friendship-dominated relationship understandable. Again, it’s always going to be Lorelai and Rory — they’re each other’s person.
Lorelai and Rory are the real mother-daughter friendship goals. These are only a few of the best moments these Gilmore girls have shared. Having a built-in best friend is awesome, and we’re glad that Lorelai and Rory had each other.
