Wow! It’s crazy to think that UC Berkeley is celebrating its 150th anniversary after being chartered in 1868. For 150 years, UC Berkeley has been crushing hopes and dreams all while producing Nobel laureates, successful CEOs and totally cute actors — shoutout to the Clog’s man crush every day, Chris Pine. On March 23, 2018, UC Berkeley will be hosting its 150th annual Charter Day celebration. With midterm season finally calming down, we at the Clog think it’s time for us all to take a break and celebrate UC Berkeley in all its 150-year-old glory.
Drink every boba drink at every boba shop within walking distance of UC Berkeley
Do you even go to UC Berkeley if you don’t drink at least three boba drinks a day? Boba acts as the driving force for almost every UC Berkeley student. Have you seen or heard of flavors you were too scared to try? Celebrating UC Berkeley calls for finally trying out a rose milk tea with boba — and realizing that rose is better as a flower than in a drink.
Scale the Campanile
The Campanile is by far our favorite and tallest clock tower at any university! Going up the tower to see the beautiful views of the Bay Area is a must. Why go up the elevator like every other day? Get a little creative and scale the side of the Campanile instead! Nothing says “I love UC Berkeley” more than literally shouting “I love UC Berkeley” from the side of the Campanile for all of the Bay Area to hear.
Talk about how UC Berkeley is the No. 1 public university in the world
By now, even the freshmen might be getting sick of hearing the phrase “We’re the No.1 public university in the world!” However, to celebrate 150 years, spend all of Charter Day beginning and ending your conversations with this quote that UC Berkeley should’ve had trademarked by now.
Become Oski
Of course, there’s only one true Oski, but with a minor wardrobe change and adding a little skip to your step, you can basically emulate everything Oski is. Wake up and throw on a yellow sweater, white gloves and a pair of your dad’s old New Balance shoes. Don’t forget to spill a little beer onto your outfit to even imitate the smell of our beloved Oski!
Study for your midterms and finals
Seriously though, we can’t let UCLA get that close again.
We at the Clog get the pain of being a UC Berkeley student, but we also recognize UC Berkeley for all its greatness. People and things will always come and go, but UC Berkeley is forever. Happy 150th anniversary, and here’s to many more. Go Bears!
